NIS CG, Babandede, JIFORM President Deliver Papers On Migration Workshop In Abuja

The Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service(NIS), Isa Jere Idris,the former CG, NIS, Muhammad Babandede and President of JIFORM, Dr. Abayomi Ajibola, today attended the two –day workshop on  Sensitisation Strategy And Reportage On Irregular Migration For Journalists In Abuja.

The NIS CG was represented by the Acting Deputy Comptroller General(DCG), ACG Ngozi Odikpo, who delivered a position paper on capacity building for the media on reportage of Irregular migration and survivors.

Also present at the event was the former Comptroller General of Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede, who lend professional and expert voice to the issues relating to migration, irregular and regular Migration,

He said that migrants need to report positively about the country, citing examples of the use of language in reporting issues about the country in an effort to sensitise the citizenry, inform them rightly, and educate citizens on the need to migrate regularly and not by irregular means or channels.

The workshop was organised by Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM) and the Nigerian -German Centre For Jobs, Migration and Reintegration (NGC) at Reiz Continental Hotel, Abuja.

 At the event journalists from different media houses gathered to participate in the capacity development workshop on reportage on migration, migrants, smuggling of migrants, trafficking in persons, hydra headed issues of domestic concern with international implications due to global impact and effect.

The President of JIFORM, Dr. Abayomi Ajibola, President of JIFORM who also delivered a position paper.

Other personalities that attended the event aree Mrs. Tolulope Olaiya representing (GIZ)PME,Dr Williams Azuma Ijoma of NAIJAINFONEWS, NAPTIP represented by Mr. Vincent Adekoye,National Press Officer of the National Agency For Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP),Ministry of Labour represented by Mrs. Maureen Ewere Ovie,Head of Migrant Resource Centre in the Ministry of Labour, official of the Voice of Nigeria, Dr. Qasim Akinreti,  a Deputy Director all presented position papers .

The Comptroller of Immigration Service, Rivers State Command James Sunday, also delivered two position papers  at the workshop to sensitise the media on  reportage of  migration, migrants and related issues and the need for regular, safe and orderly migration.
