Customs Comptroller, Officials Breach Airport Security, Forcefully Opens Gate, threatens To Beat AVSEC Officials

The blatant  and incessant  abuse of  privilege by Nigeria Customs  Service(NCS)  bearing firearms  has become a recurrent threat to the safety and security of  the staff of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria(FAAN) operations at Murtala Muhammed Airport(MMA),Lagos.

The breach of security by NCS further rear its ugly head in the evening at about 1745hrs on Thursday, January 20, 2022, while the Aviation Security(AVSEC) officers on duty at Gate 3 were profiling a Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) vehicle that wanted to access the Security Restricted Area (SRA) via gate 3, the Customs Area Comptroller for Hajj and Cargo Terminal suddenly emerged and pulled off behind the NAHCO vehicle that was being attended to.

Instead of waiting for AVSEC officials to carry out profiling on the Comptroller and his entourage, CSC Agunbiade, a Customs officer on the Area Comptroller’s entourage forcefully  shoved aside  the AVSEC officer at the gate and  took over the gate and opened  the gate for the Comptroller  and his escorts  to forcefully  access the Security Restricted Area via the gate.

As if that was not enough, the armed escorts of the Comptroller while accessing the gate, threatened to beat up the AVSEC officers at the gate if they dare resist their assault and breach of security.

A statement by the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Henrietta  Yakubu said that, “while we keep on working to resolve all our challenges decisively, we hereby urge all stakeholders to please respect our mandate by being of disciplined and Professional  conduct in the interest of national security and operational safety.”

She assured that FAAN is committed to  its core values of safety, security and comfort.
