…Grills Abia Assembly Speaker
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), today arrested former Abia State governor, Senator Theodore Orji at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport(NAIA), Abuja.
The ex- governor was arrested at about 10 am this morning and brought to the EFCC headquarters Jabi, Abuja for interrogation.
The former governor was undergoing interrogation alongside his son, Chinedu, who is the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly as at the time of filling this report.
Chinedu turned himself in this afternoon upon learning of the arrest of his father.
Senator Orji and his sons, Chinedu and one Ogbonna, are under investigation by the EFCC for alleged misappropriation of public funds and money laundering to the tune of N551 billion.
The ex- governor was alleged to have embezzled the N500 million monthly security vote he received for eight years as governor of Abia state between 2007 and 2015.
Other issues relate to the alleged mismanagement of N2bn Ecological Fund and conversion of Sure-P funds.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest of the former governor.
It would be recalled that the anti- graft agency had in the past filed a suit at the Federal High Court Lagos specifically Court One at the Lagos division of the court against Orji but the suit never see the light of the day.
