In recognition of its humanitarian interventions during the COVID-19 lockdown last year, Nigeria’s leading airline Air Peace has been bestowed with the Humanitarian Airline of the Year 2020 Award by the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents LAAC).

The airline received the award at this year’s LAAC conference, themed, ‘Nigeria’s Aviation Industry: Management, Policy and Regulation’, which was held at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, on July 28, 2021.

The Spokesperson of Air Peace, Stanley Olisa, expressed gratitude to the leadership and members of the League, while stating that the airline’s Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) initiatives during the lockdown were propelled by its responsiveness and sensitivity to the needs of Nigerians, especially at a time when there was heightening economic hardship courtesy of the pandemic.

“We could see the economic impact of COVID-19 and noticed clearly that people’s sources of livelihood were adversely affected. We decided to distribute food items to indigent Nigerians in selected parts of Lagos”, Olisa asserted.

According to him, the airline also operated several evacuation flights to and from Nigeria, including the airlift of medical personnel and supplies from China, to support Nigeria’s fight against COVID-19.

Air Peace currently operates 17 domestic routes, 2 international destinations and 5 regional routes, with a mixed fleet of 28 aircraft, the latest being 3 brand new Embraer 195-E2s.
