Airport Police Command Advocates Community Policing To Prevent,Curtail Criminal Activities At Aerodromes
The Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command,Mr. Abubakar Umar Bature , has advocated for community policing to prevent and curtail criminal activities within airports across the country and to bring about safety of passengers.
This is just as he assured the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) continued support as it disseminate information to the general public.
He said these when the new Executive of LAAC led by its Chairman, Segun Koiki paid him a courtesy call at his office at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport(MMA),Lagos.
According to him, community policing is all about partnering with the members of the community, of which he said LAAC as an association belongs to.
He contended that it was necessary for everyone to know about his or her community, adding that without this, it would be difficult to address insecurity at airports in the country in particular and Nigeria in general.
According to him, “It is only when you know what is happening around you that you can take a proactive action to take care of what is happening or what has happened. We will continue to work with you. If there is anything you perceive, which can assist us, don’t hesitate to let us know.”
The Airport Police Command CP commended LAAC for the good and cordial relationship it had maintained with the Command over the years .
In his words, “I thank you for the visit and cooperation you had with the police command. We will continue to partner with you to ensure that members of the public are sufficiently informed.
“It is a pleasure having you in my office today. You have done well. You are a very important stakeholder. There is no way members of the public will know what is happening without publicity through the media.”
Earlier, the Chairman of LAAC , Olusegun Koiki, assured the CP that LAAC would continue to work in harmony with the police at the airport.
He told the Commissioner that there is exiting relationship between LAAC and Airport Police Command over the years, adding the present visit is to further cement the relationship.
LAAC, the Chairman stated would assist the Command in dissemination of information and publicizing its activities in all the airports in the country.
Other Executive members of LAAC ,who accompanied the Chairman on the visit includes : the Vice Chairman, Anthony Omoh, Secretary, Abel Orukpe, Treasurer, Anthony Aunor and Assistant Secretary, Mabel Kanu.
