NIS Commissions Forward Operation Base At Afah Offiong

 

 

…Says It Is Part Of Commitment To Address NIS Infrastructural Needs

 

As part of efforts to continue covering border areas that were taken over by irregular migrants, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede, today commissioned another Forward Operation Base(FOB) at Afaha Offiong in Akwa Ibom State.

The unveiling of the FOB at Affah Offiong brings to 13 the number so far commissioned across the country,

CGI Babandede in his speech at the event, said the Service under his leadership has made the construction of FOBs part of its commitment to address infrastructural needs of NIS.

He noted that these FOBs affords NIS the opportunity to address their challenges in combating frontally the menace of cross border banditry including Smuggling of Migrants (SOMs) and Trafficking in Persons (TIPs).

A statement by signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration(DCI), Sunday James,quoted the CGI as saying that the project commissioned today is one of those laudable border security intervention efforts by the NIS, adding that just last week, he was in Belel, Adamawa state to commission an FOB.

The NIS boss thanked the dignitaries that graced the occasion especially the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for his support, HRH Edidem Dr. Manasseh S. Akpan, JP (The Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ibom LGA) and the Local Government Chairman for accommodating the operatives.

The Comptroller General reiterated his commitment to visiting every location where NIS formations are located to feel their pulse and address issues personally not delegating anyone.

“It is my duty to visit my operatives wherever they are stationed as a sign of good leadership” he said.
