
The Comptroller General of Immigration(CGI) Muhammad Babandede, has declared open Action Against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (A-TIPSOM) 3-Day Training For NIS Officers On Legislation, Immigration Act .
This is just as he noted that every action taken by an officer of the Service, has a way of affecting migration management and control, issuance of visa and regulation of human mobility.
He said this while presenting his goodwill message as the Guest of Honour,noting that the essence of participant’s open mindedness towards assimilating the Immigration Act 2015 and the Immigration Regulations 2017 is for the benefit of the Service and the nation in general.
He emphasized on the need for skill development in fighting organized crimes like Trafficking in Persons (TIP) and Smuggling of Migrants (SOM).
The A-TIPSON team leader was represented at the event by the Project Institutional Coordinator, Mr Jose Nsang Andeme.
The training programme which is funded by European Union, the International and Ibero-America Foundation for Administration and Public Policy (FIIAPP) for the training for Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officers on Immigration Legislation and Act.
According to a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer(PRO), Deputy Comptroller of Immigration(DCI), Sunday James, participants are majorly instructors from the various training institutions of NIS with a blend of other core officers from the Service Headquarters and the FCT Command.
He said that they were carefully selected to ensure that knowledge gathered is cascaded to other officers of the Service with similar job description.
The aim of the training, the NIS spokesman said is to ensure participants have in-depth knowledge of what it entails to deliver on their mandate, taking into cognizance the provisions of the Immigration Act 2015 and the Immigration Regulations 2017 that are key to day to day operational activities of the organisation .
He recalled that the first workshop on Immigration Act 2015 and Immigration Regulations 2017 was held on December 8,9, 2020 for senior officers of NIS and that the second workshop, which is scheduled to hold between today 18th to 20th Jan, 2021 is meant:
a, To acquaint participants with provisions of the Immigration Act 2015 and the Immigration Regulations 2017, as it relates to Migration, Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons.
b, To update participants’ knowledge on the applicability of the provisions of the day-to-day operations as Law Enforcement Agents for onward transfer to trainees
