
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has refuted insinuations that the body has reviewed the timetables for the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) as a result of COVID-19 .
NECO, who made its position known yesterday in statement by its Head, Information and Public Relations Division, Azez Sani, the body stated that there were no plans to review any of its remaining examination time tables for BECE and SSCE, neither was it contemplating such for now.
The Examination body pointed out that the information being speculated was fake, adding that it only postponed the 2020 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) indefinitely due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
He advised the general public to disregard such fake news as the council was monitoring the prevailing situation in the country and would make official pronouncement on the examinations if the need arose.
“The attention of the management of the National Examinations Council has been drawn to the barrage of fake news trending on the social media purporting that the council has shifted the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) due to the prevailing situation in the country. “NECO wishes to state categorically that apart from the 2020 National Common Entrance (NCEE) that was postponed indefinitely due to the outbreak of COVID-19, there is no plan to review any of its remaining examination time tables for BECE and SSCE, neither is it contemplating such for now.
“The general public is urged to disregard such fake news, as the council is monitoring the prevailing situation in the country and will make official pronouncement on the examinations if the need arises, “the statement reads.
