As March, the month for the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agents (NANTA) elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) to elect the officers that would drive the activities of the agency draws near, a Presidential hopeful, Mrs Susan Akporiaye has stated that she would change the narrative of the association if she wins the presidency of the group.
Akporiaye, who is currently the 1st Deputy National President of NANTA, said this while speaking to journalists on her plan for the association at the body’s headquarters in Lagos.
The first Deputy National President, said that having worked with three past presidents of NANTA, she is convinced that she is the best for the job.
She explained that the decision to contest for the number one position in the association was not an easy one and that based on the fact that she has made up her mind to contest; she came up with TEAM Susan.
Speaking further, the presidential aspirant said that one of his priorities would be to ensure unity by bridging and mending cracks in the group, adding that in the past 43 years of NANTA’s existence it has experienced turbulence but that as always found win-win solution. Under my watch, my team will work hard to bridge and mend cracks. We shall reach out, share solutions and increase our membership profile. We shall not encourage divisive tendencies or would we empower cultship and unbridled cut throat competitions and act inimical to the unity of NANTA.
Akporaiye also said that to change the narrative, she would ensure that every zones is active, adding that gone are the days where people believe that NANTA is for some people.
She added that she would also work to improve the relationship between airlines and travel agencies if elected , adding that NANTA should not be seen to be competing with airlines ,who are one of its principal .
NANTA, she said would talk more with partners such as government , airlines , media among others to tell them that they should complement each others.
On the welfare of NANTA members, she stated that she would ensure that members are empowered in terms of training and re-training to make travel agencies more professional, as according to her training and retraining is the nucleus of her team’s agenda
In his words, “We shall document our efforts and where we need to change direction and approach, such shall be done in the most democratic manner. We shall regularly publish our financial statements, budget our developmental efforts and distance from mere yearly meetings, Christmas party and focus on visible efforts to transform the business of our members. A calendar of aggressive of training and retraining for NANTA members form the nucleus of my team’s agenda.
Present at the media briefing were the Managing Director of HEC Travel Agency Limited, Ihe Chima James, who traveled from Port Harcourt to Lagos to attend the event is vying for the position of 2nd Deputy National President, while the youthful Managing Director Aeroport Travel &Tours, Oludayo Taiwo, is contesting come March for the position of Publicity Secretary ,Lagos.
They both promised to give Akporiaye the needed support and also join hands with her to move NANTA forward.
