Kabba Helicopter Crash: ART Condemns Flying Of Vice President By Foreign Pilot


…Says It Is A Slap On Nigerian Pilots

The Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ART), an aviation pressure group has described a situation where a foreing pilot was the one who flew the Vice President, Yemi Yemi Osinbajo on board Agusta AW139 Helicopter with registration number 5N- -CML and serial number: 31389, which crashed in Kabba, Kogi State, as a slap on Nigeria pilots.

The Helicopter owned and operated by Caverton Helicopters crash in Kabba, Kogi State with 12 passengers including the Vice President on board.

ART made this known in a statement issued by the group’s spokesman, Mr Olumide Ohunayo

“It is embarrassing to see the Vice President of Nigeria being flown by a foreign pilot whether contracted or chartered in a Nigerian Police helicopter as noticed in a previous flight during the campaign season,” The statement reads

It continued, “It is a slap on the huge human resource of pilots Nigeria has in abundance.”

The group also took a swipe at those managing the security of the Vice President, adding that it was not comfortable with preparation made for landing of the chopper, as there was no crowd control after the crash and that if there was for, the casualties would have been more

According to the body, “While waiting for the AIB report of the accident, we are disturbed about the preparation made for the landing of the helicopter in that area and the crowd that surged towards the helicopter after the crash, if there had been fire, we would have experienced some casualties.”

ART said that it join other Nigerians in thanking God for sparing the lives of the Vice President and members of his team.
