Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo today survived helicopter crash when the propeller of the chopper that was conveying him to Kogi State suddenly pulled off at the Kabba Township Stadium in Kabba / Bunu Local Government Area of the state.
An eye witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity narrated that the chopper carrying Osinbajo and other personalities, who identities could not be ascertained was able to land at about 2.22pm at the Township Stadium before the propeller of the helicopter suddenly pulled off.
The eye witness added that the ability of the helicopter to land successfully was due the pilot’s experience
As at the time of compiling this report, the cause of the crash was yet to be known.
The eye witness further said that the Vice President and other persons in the accident chopper were evacuated from the scene of the accident into a waiting convoy after which they were later driven to the palace of Obaro of Kabba.
At Kabba, he paid a courtesy call on the traditional ruler.
Meanwhile, the Vice President in his Twitter handle,@ProfOsinbajo tweeted, “We are safe and sound! Thank you to everyone who has expressed concern and thank you to the crew who managed the situation well. We believe that God will continue to keep us and Nigeria safe even as we go higher.”
The Spokesman for Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), Mr Tunji Oketunbi, could not be reached to ascertain if the accident has been reported to the agency.
AIB is the body saddled with the responsibility of investigating both incidents and accidents in civil aviation in Nigeria.
