The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCo) Aviance, the leading ground handling company in Nigeria has stated that by the end of the year it would have invested N3.6 billion in equipment to maintain its leading position in the business.
This is just as the ground handlers said it has spent N1.9 billion also on equipment in the last few months.
The Group Managing Director /Chief Executive Officer, Olatokunbo Fagbemi, disclosed this while speaking with Aviation Correspondents at the organisation’s corporate headquarters, Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos.
The investment, she explained is part of efforts to further maintain its position as the leading ground handling company in the country.
Explaining further, Fagbemi stated that the company would refurbish equipment, buildings among others things the company already has to make them more functional.
The GMD said that to move NAHCo forward, the management had a strategic meeting in November 2018 in Frankfurt, Germany, where a new vision, mission and the company’s core values were spelt out.
Fagbemi, who became the GMD in December, 2018, added that NAHCo Aviance has also fashioned out five years strategic plan built on five pillars; safety, integrity, reliability, innovation and respect that would sustain its leadership position in the ground handling business in Nigeria.
The NAHCo boss revealed that a programme management office has been set up to drive the vision and mission of the company, adding that the way forward is to be open and transparent.
He urged investors to invest to buy NAHCo shares, adding that five years from now the value of the shares would increase.
On the ongoing restructuring in the organisation, the GMD said that it would not lead to loss of jobs but that the company would bring in professionalism.
“It is not our intention to lay off staff but we will introduce automation to provide excellent service. A lot will be required.”
Speaking on the ground handling market share, she stated as the market leader has 65 per cent of the market share, adding that the company intend to maintain its leadership position.
According to her,”We don’t want to be a leader without excellent service. We want to be a leader that drives the ground handling business and show the way. We don’t want to leave on past glory. We want a NAHCo of the Future.”
On what the company will do under leadership to retain its old customers, the GMD said that NAHCo, “We will do everything possible to retain our old customers and do new things to attract new customers. We are in the business where our customers are stronger than us and they are trying to cut cost and we must provide them with excellent service,”
