Man Bags 18 Months Imprisonment For Importing 1.980 Kg Of Cocaine

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos today sentenced one Aneakee Valentine Chukwubuikem to 18 months imprisonment for illegally importing 1.980 kilogrammes of cocaine into Nigeria from Brazil via Johannesburg, South Africa.

Justice Emmanuel Ayoola had on November, 27th convicted Chukwubuikem and adjourned his sentence till today following his change of plea from not guilty to guilty and the review of facts by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), lawyer, Mr Abu Ibrahim.

The trial judge in his ruling today ordered that the 18 months sentence should commence from the date of the arrest of the convict.

Chukwubuikem ,who was earlier arraigned before Justice Hadizat Shagari in late 2017 was rearranged before Justice Emmanuel Ayoola on October 3, 2018 on a one count charge filed before the court by NDLEA, counsel,  Mr Abu Ibrahim, following the transfer Justice Shagari to the Katsina division of the court.

The charge reads, “That you Aneakee Valentine Chukwubuikem , Male, Adult on or about the 9th December, 2017 at the E-arrival Hall of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja,Lagos, during the inward clearance of passengers on a South African Airways Flight from Brazil via Johannesburg, South Africa without lawful authority imported 1.980 kilogrammes of cocaine, a narcotic drugs and you hereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 11( a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap.N30, Laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2004.
