
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has seized gold worth N211 million at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos.
EFCC said that the gold was in the verge of being illegally transported through the Murtala international terminal of MMA, Lagos en route Dubai, United Arab Emirate (UAE).
A statement issued by the Acting Spokesman for the anti graft body, Mr. Tony Orilade, stated that, “Following intelligence report, the operatives on November 9, 2018 uncovered the gold weighing about 35kg just at the point of departure of a suspect currently in the EFCC’s custody.
“Investigation is ongoing to unravel his accomplice behind the illegal movement of the goods.
The statement added that the suspect, who name was not disclosed is cooperating with EFCC.
Recalled that the EFCC in March 2017 intercepted bags containing a total of N49 million illegally transported out of the country through the Kaduna International Airport.
