Visa On Arrival: A Boost To Investment In Nigeria—-Investigation



There are indications that the Visa on Arrival (VOA) introduced by the Federal Government through the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos has increased the influx of investors and tourists into the country.

Investigation by revealed that about 38,000 have used the VOA between June 2017-2018.

Also a very reliable source at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos told the online platform that passengers now prefer to come and get VOA.

” Honestly, the visa on arrival is seriously helping and It is a good omen for this country. The Nigeria Immigration Services has done something great and this has helped access of investment as people will make their application and come in and pay for it, instead of going to the embassy.”

AbelNews checks revealed that the service process not less than 500 every week, adding that with the introduction of VOA, the difficulties hitherto faced by businessmen and tourists are over.

Lagos Airport , a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity informed have witnessed the influx of passengers from countries  such as the United States, China, Britain, Canada, South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia among others due to the introduction of VOA.

The source further informed that NIS has also introduced name plates for personnel for easy identification in the event of any crisis and that the name plate cannot be detached.

“We have introduced Visa On Arrival for passengers and name plates so that we can identify the officers concern in the event of any incident. These are some of the measures the Comptroller General wants to use to sanitise the system,” the source said.

On human trafficking, the source told AbelNews that the practice has reduced at Lagos Airport, other airports and border posts.

On the duration of the Visa On Arrival, the source said that VOA, has always been for a duration of one month, adding that once approval was granted by the Comptroller General, the approval has a two-week validity.


According to him, “You only need approval from the Comptroller General to get the VOA. In fact, once the approval is given, it has a validity of two weeks, if not used within that time; you start the process of re applying for approval. However, when you have approval and everything is done the duration of the visa is one month. It is also renewable.”
