FG Names New National Carrier Nigeria Air



The Federal Government has finally unveiled Nigeria Air as the name for the new national carrier.

The new name was unveiled today in London by the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika at Farnborough International Airshow.

The Minister stated that the Federal government would not have more than 5 per cent share in the new carrier.

He added that today being the day the new was unveiled is an important day in Nigeria; the largest economy in Africa, largest population, Ggross domestic Product(GDP) of around half a billion dollars, and the only aviation player in West and Central Africa regions.

He explained that the national carrier will be private sector driven, adding that The government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it. The investors will have full responsibility for this.

The airline he stressed would be run as a business and not as social service

He reiterated that the airline will become operational in December 2018.
