Three men, Yusuf Mustapha, 28, Sikiru Moshood, 41 and Abiodun Adebisi, 40, were today, arraigned before an Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for stealing properties valued at N75 million.

The three men were brought before Magistrate K. S. Abdulsalam by men of Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID) Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos, on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The defendants, according to a charge marked E/49/2017 were alleged to have on April 7, 2018, conspired among themselves and unlawfully entered the parking yard of Mid-City International Company, located at Iponri, Lagos, and steal 320 bags of Cashew nuts, valued N40 million, one empty container, valued N22 million, and a trailer truck marked XS110 Mus., valued N13 million.

The offences according to the Prosecutor, Barrister Morufu Animashaun, are contrary to and punishable under sections 411, 237 (9)(d) and 287(9)(10) law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following the defendants’ plea of innocence to the charges, their lawyers, Ikechukwu Anima, Adekunle Rufai, and Ngozi Ibe, urged the court to grant their clients bail in the most liberal terms.

The lawyer claimed that the charges against their clients are bailable ones.

Responding, the Prosecutor, Barrister Animashaun, urged the court to remand them in prison custody as granting them bail, may jeopardise police efforts in getting other suspects still at large.

After listened to the submissions of both parties, the Magistrate, Mrs. Abdulsalam, admitted each of the defendants to bail in the sum of N500, 000, with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendants, and that the two sureties must show to court evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State government. And that the residential and office addresses of the sureties must be verified by the prosecutor.

The Magistrate, while adjourning the matter till July 30 for mention, ordered that all the defendants be remanded in prison custody pending when they meet the bail term.
