* Aviation Minister, Senator, Hadi Sirika

As part of the ongoing process to establish a national carrier for Nigeria, the Federal Government has requested for contributions especially from the nation’s youths and students to ‘Name Your Airline’ by suggesting appropriate names for the proposed national airline.

This request is coming on the heels of the uncertainties surrounding establishment of a national carrier.

AbelNews recalled that the national carrier question has continue to generate discussions in the aviation industry, with some stakeholders doubting the possibility of establishing the airline in December, in view of the fact that there are no physical structure on ground.

Recalled that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Director General, Capt. Usman Muhtar had said that the Nigeria’s national carrier in December would begin operations in December.

The NCAA boss spoke following controversies that have trailed the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika’s position that the airline would start flight operations in December and that a task force of which the NCAA DG and other parastatals’ CEOs are members have been constituted to implement  the plan

However, the assurance by the NCAA boss is till been contested by stakeholders, who argued that there are no visible signs that a new national carrier would be delivered by Nigeria in December, most especially when Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) has not been secured six months to the target date.

But in an online statement issued by the Deputy Director Press Aviation, Ministry of Aviation, James Odaudu, the Federal Government invited youths in the country to contribute to the naming of the unborn national carrier by June 25,2018.

According to him, “Nigerian youth and students are therefore invited to contribute their ideas and creativity in the naming of the new Nigerian flag carrier through a participation programme and welcome all ideas by 25th June – 12 midday.”

The statement hinted that the first 1,000 entries would be given consideration in the creative process of the airline.

According to the Task Force on the establishment of the national carrier, the request is to carry the people especially the youth   along, as part of the process.
