The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the killing of 16 people, including two Catholic Priests, in fresh attacks on Mbalon community in Gwer Local Government Area of the State.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Owoseni Fatai, who confirmed this to journalists today in Makurdi added that more Policemen had been drafted to the area prevent further attacks
The CP explained that unknown gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen, opened fire on Catholic worshipers during early morning Mass on today.
According to him, “The worshipers were attacked around 5 a.m. during morning Mass. “Other victims were killed during a burial ceremony later in the day.”
The Benue CP, who described the killing as unfortunate, however promised to fish out those who carried out the dastardly act and also ensure they face the wrath of the law.
The Commissioner also told journalist that preliminary investigation carried out by Police revealed that the herdsmen had laid siege at around the area for sometime before hatching their plans.
