Fake Septrin: Court Adjourns Trial Of Suspect Till March 15

 

 

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos presided over by Justice Hadizat Shagari today adjourned till March 15, 2018 the trial of a Lagos based trader Mr Kingsley Chinedu Alisigwe ( a.k.a Anarchy).

Alisigwe, a drug distributor is charged for alleged sales of fake pharmaceutical products.

Justice Shagari adjourned the matter till March 15, 2018 for further trial after listening to the seventh Prosecution Witness, Mr. John Babaman an officer of National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control(NAFDAC).

Babaman while under cross-examination from the defence counsel told the court that out of the 20 samples of the Standprim Contrim tablets taken for analysis at the NAFDAC Laboratory, Eight of the samples did not meet the standard requirements expected of the drug.

When asked about the time limit for him to carry out analysis on drugs samples submitted to him for analysis and the time frame for the results to be out, the witness told the court that it could take as much as three months

Babaman added that once he got the samples from the head of his unit, he would carry out analysis on the drug and then inputs his results into an e-laboratory and then forward the results to the head of the unit, who would carry out necessary checks on the work done to be sure that what he did is right and afterwards sent to the head of the laboratory.

When asked if he could remember the date he inputted the results into the e-laboratory Babaman told the court that he could not remember as the analyses were not done the same day and the imputation not done the same day

NAFDAC, had in charge number FHC,/L/ 112c/ 16 filed before the court, alleged that Kingsley Chinedu Alisigwe ( alias Anarchy ) of 96 Alabi, Oyo Street, Buknor , Lagos on or about March 3, 2016 at Idumota market , Lagos sold fake drug to wit; STANDPRIM CONTRIM Tablet.

The offence committed according to the Prosecution is said to be contrary to section 1 ( a ) of the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods (miscellaneous provisions) Act Cap C.34LFN 2004 and punishable under section 3 ( 1 )( a ) of the same Act.
