Police from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Panti-Yaba Lagos, on Monday, charged 10 men before an Ebute-metta Chief Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly steal aluminum cable valued N2 million.
Those charged before Chief Magistrate (Mrs.) Oluwayemisi Adelaja led-court, on a two count charge of conspiracy and stealing are: Sunday Joseph, 37, John Chinnedu, 32, Henry Onuawa, 30, Francis Fedella, 22, Daniel Akpan, 29, Sunday Francis, 42, Simoen Eze, 57 and Obinna Nnabue, 28.
The police in a charge marked D/110/2017, alleged that all the accused persons had on December 9, 2017, at about 10 p.m., at Third Mainland Bridge, lagos, conspired among themselves to steal the aluminium cable belomging to the communication giant, MTN.
The offences according to prosecutor, Inspector Chinnalu Nwadione, are contrary to and punishable under sections 411 and 285 of the criminal cap. C17. Vol. 3, laws of Lagos state of nigeria, 2015.
All the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Following their pleas of innocence, their lawyers, Mr. Ali Aba and Oliver Mbagwu, pleaded with the court to grant their clients bail in the mosr liberal terms.
Mbagwu, who represented the eight accused person, particularly told the court that his client was arrested in lieu of another escaped suspect.
Chief Magistrate Adelaja however, dismissed the submission of the lawyer, but told him to file an affidavit to support his claim.
The accused persons were however admitted to bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties in the same sum.
