An 87 year-old woman, Agbomabiwon Maria Seriki, of 9, Osunba Street, Oto-Awori, Ijaniki, Lagos, today pleaded guilty to the charge of dealing in 10.3 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, popularly called marijuana.
This is just as another 56 years old woman, Anya Nneoma, also pleaded guilty before the same courtesy for illegal dealing 5 kilograms of the same substance (marijuana).
The two women were arraigned before Justice Hadiza Rabiu-Shagari of a Federal High Court, Lagos, on one count charge each, filed by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
While the 87 years old Mrs. Agbomabiwon, was charged for unlawful dealing in 10.3 kilogrammes of marijuana, an offence said to be contrary to and punishable under sections 11(c) of NDLEA cap. N30, laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2004. Mrs. Anya was also charged under the same section.
Following their guilty plea, the Prosecutor, Mr. Aliyu Abubakar, urged the court to remand the two accused persons in Kirikiri Maximum prisons, pending when the facts of the matter will be reviewed before court.
The prosecutor’s application to remand the accused persons in prisons custody was not opposed by the defendants’ counsel, Mr. Prosper Ojakovo.
Consequently, the Trial Judge, Justice Rabiu-Shagari, ordered that the two women be remanded in Kirikiri Maximum prisons till November 15, for review of fact and sentencing of the accused persons.
