The National Union of Air Transport Employees(NUATE) said it has suspended the planned industrial action to ground the operations of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) over promotion issues following the intervention of the Ministry of Transportation.
This decision to suspend the industrial action against NCAA was made known in a circular dated July 18,2017 issued by the General Secretary,NUATE,Comrade Olayinka Abioye .
Abioye in the Circular sent to all NCAA branches nationwide titled, “Re: Demand for Outstanding Promotion Letters for Deserving Staff Within One Week to Avoid Imminent Labour Crises,”said that the entreaties made by its National President prompted the intervention by the Transport Ministry.
“You may recall that NUATE (and her partners) had placed an ultimatum on the NCAA which upon its expiration would entail total shutdown of the NCAA in its five regional offices, “ Abioye said.
He continued, “A few hours ago, the National President of our union, entreaties, promptings proposed intervention from the Federal Ministry of Transportation, has waded into the dispute on the above subject.
He added that consequent upon this intervention from the Ministry and on the advice from stakeholders, “we regret to inform you that our industrial action is hereby suspended forthwith, as the NCAA management, the Ministry and our union engage in social dialogue towards the settlement of the matter in dispute.”
Abioye commended, the staff for your understanding and continued support.
Recalled that NUATE and its allies had threatened to shut down NCAA NCAA in its five regional offices in the country if the regulatory agency fails to address the issues raised.
