No fewer than 171 Nigerians deported from Libya arrived the cargo section of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA),Lagos aboard an aircraft operated by Buraq Air with registration No TNSIB UZ/89/190.
The deportees includes 76 males and 95 females
The deportees who had 3 medical cases were brought in an ambulance to the Hajj Camp of the airport were the deportees were profiled
The deportees were seen looking joyous to have been able to make it alive back to Nigeria after the harrowing experience they went through in Libya.
Speaking to journalists ,shortly after the profiling the deportees, the National Commission for Refugee Commissioner, Hajia Sadiat Umar-Farouk said that not all the deportees are illegal immigrants as some of the deported Nigerians had valid papers but were deported after a frame up by their host country militias.
She however advised young girls to avoid “this dangerous journey across the dessert in search of greener pasture”.
According to her, “The grass is actually not as green on the other side as the youths imagine. They should stay back here , their country, and practice their trade as some of these returnees already have skills they learnt here in Nigeria. They can stay back here and practice their trade. They can make it here. It is these same skills they practice in the country they are migrating to.”
She revealed that the National Commission for Refugees is always in constant touch with the international refugee agency to assist any Nigeria in distress abroad and to assist them to return back to Nigeria as the current 171 Nigerians who were assisted back by the commission.
Meanwhile, the deportees have called on the government to provide jobs for the youths to prevent this dangerous trend of youths crossing the dreaded Mediterranean sea to Europe
