The Federal Government has approved the temporary closure of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA, Abuja, to enable the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) carry out a major rehabilitation of the only runway at the airport.
An online statement issued by the Ag. General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu quoted the Managing Director of FAAN, Engr. Saleh Dunoma, as saying that the closure, which will take effect from the midnight of March 7th, will be for a period of six weeks, after which the airport will be re-opened to operations again.
He stated further that due to the temporary closure, Kaduna International Airport would serve as the alternate from March 8, till the completion of the rehabilitation.
Normal operations, the Managing Director stated would resume at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on the April 19, 2017.
FAAN, Dunoma said has put in place necessary facilities that will ensure the safety and security of all airport users and seamless facilitation at the Kaduna International Airport.
He appealed to stakeholders to bear with the authority as we continue to upgrade our facilities in compliance with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and International Civil Organisation (ICAO) Annexes, which bother on security and safety at airports.
