The Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Hon. Philip Shaibu in Edo state governorship election got a boost from the Hausa communities in the state ahead of the September 10 governorship election.
The Hausa communities in the Northern part of the state under the umbrella body of Etsako West Arewa People’s Congress declared their support for Godwin Obaseki/Philip Shaibu candidature at a reception held in honour of Shaibu in Auchi yesterday.
The EWAPC, the largest Hausa community in Edo state, cited the developmental strides recorded in the state under the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole led administration and the peaceful co-existence between the host communities and the Hausa communities as one of the reasons for the massive support for the APC candidates.
Speaking at the reception ,Leader of the communities and Sarkin Hausaawa of Yelwa in Uzairue, Auchi and Aviele in Edo North, Alhaji Abdulrasak Umar, said the community decision to declare total support for the candidates also stems from the community ‘s believe in the APC administration that has governed the state for seven years.
According to him, “We have been witnesses to the giant transformations in the state for seven years now, all over the state, our people has recorded peaceful coexistence with their host communities, this we believe will continue with the Obaseki/Shiabu administration, hence our resolve to back you.”
Umar reiterated that Obaseki has shown wisdom in chosen one of their own son of Yelwa community in the person of Philip Shaibu as his running mate affirming that the Hausas has agreed to unanimously cast their votes for the APC candidates during the elections.
“Having seen the good work of the comrade governor, the Hausa community has decided to give 100% support and vote to the technocrat Godwin Obaseki and Philip Shaibu to consolidate the good work of the comrade Governor. Come rain, come shine, our votes are for APC and Obaseki and Shaibu” he assured.
He however appealed to the governor to provide a bore hole to ease the water shortage the community is experiencing.
Responding, Hon. Shaibu commended the Hausa communities and promised not to let them down by rewarding the communities’ support with developmental projects if voted into office.
Shaibu, who spoke in Hausa, stated that Obaseki was poised to industrialise Edo state and create jobs for the youth when voted into power.
