Accidental Discharge: Policeman, Woman Injured At Lagos Airport

There was a wild accident at the General Aviation Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport(MMA) Lagos, when a police orderly attached to an unnamed Senator was trying to remove the magazine from his gun accidentally discharge injuring the policeman holding the gun and another women suspected to be a passenger of one of the airlines.
An eyewitness who was at the terminal told abelnews.com that the police orderly, who was to fly with Arik Air had wanted to lodge his gun, as it was the standard practice on air travel when the gun accidentally released a bullet that hit both the man and woman on the leg.
He added that while the woman fell down and was helped to the car and while policeman walked himself to the vehicle that took them to undisclosed hospital at the airport.
Attempt to get the name of the Senator the policeman was attached to from some of the bystanders at the terminal, when the accident happened did not yield any fruitful results as those approached were not ready to speak on the matter
The General Manager, Public Affairs,FAAN, Mr. Yakubu Dati, confirmed the incident.
Dati stated that what happened was an accident and that taken the gun away with its magazine was a standard procedure because guns are not taken on-board aircraft, adding that guns and their magazines are usually checked in the luggage compartment.
