The Nigerian Army has confirmed the compulsory retirement of some senior officers from service.
The decision to retire these officers followed the approval of the Army Council.
This was made known in a statement issued and signed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, and yesterday.
In the statement Usman stated that the approval to compulsorily retire these officers was confirmed at the meeting of the Army Council.
According to him, “The Army wishes to inform the general public that quite a number of senior officers of the Nigerian Army were retired from service yesterday.”
He continued, “Those retired were mainly some major-generals, brigadiers-general, colonels, lieutenant-colonels and a major.”Their retirement was based on service exigencies.”
The Army spokesman stated that the retirements were connected with the investigation by the Presidential Committee investigating defence contracts.
Some officers, he stated had already been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
Meanwhile, a list obtained by Sahara Reporters named the officers that were compulsorily retired by the Council as:
