Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) has attributed the delay in releasing the final report of the Dana Air accident that occurred on June 3, 2012 killing 153 persons Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos to efforts to resolve comments and suggestion made by aviation stakeholders.
The reason deduced for the delay is contained in the Interim Statement issued by the agency on the investigations into the crash of Dana Airlines MD 83 aircraft with registration 5N-RAM and signed by the Head of Public Affairs, AIB, Mr Tunji Oketunbi.
The agency stated that the draft Final Report was sent to relevant stakeholders for comments and suggestions as required by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Annex 13 chapter 6.3.
The statement informed that efforts at resolving and harmonising the issues raised by the stakeholders’ comments and suggestions have however delayed the release of the report.
“The issues raised by the stakeholders, which required further scientific testing have almost completely been addressed and the Final Report will be made public very soon.” The statement reads in part.
Meanwhile, the Bureau stated that the Interim Statement marking the fourth anniversary of the unfortunate incident was already on the Bureau’s website; aib.gov.ng.
It hinted that that the final reports of the investigation of the accident that killed 153 will be released to the public very soon.
Abelnews recalled that on June 3, 2012 at about 1545hours a Boeing MD 83 aircraft, with registration number 5N- RAM operated by Dana Air on scheduled domestic flight crashed into Iju-Ishaga, a densely populated area on the outskirts of Lagos, following a loss of power on both engines while on Approach to Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos.
All of the 153 persons on board the aircraft including six crew members lost their and six confirmed ground fatalities bringing the number of person who died in that accident to 159.
AIB with cooperation from National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the United States of America (USA) and other stakeholders has been working relentlessly to determine the cause of the accident and make recommendation to prevent future accidents.
