The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Nyesom Wike as governor of Rivers State.
This just as the Apex Court dismissed the appeal filed by Adegboyega Isiaka of the PDP for lack of Merit against the election of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, as Ogun State Governor.
Wike, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the April 11, 2015 governorship election in Rivers State, had approached the apex court after the Appeal Court upheld the decision of the state election petitions tribunal which had earlier nullified his victory in the poll.
The Supreme court in a unanimous judgment by a seven man panel led by Justice Kudirat Kekere Ekun set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal that which nullified Wike ‘s elections.
However, there was wild jubilations in the Rivers State capital Port Harcourt and other major towns in the state when the news of the Court decision filtered in.
Meanwhile, the Apex Court said it would list its reasons for the decision on February 12, 2016.
In the same vein, the apex Court also upheld the election of the Ogun state governor Ibikunle Amosun.
The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal filed by Adegboyega Isiaksa of the PDP contesting the election of the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun on the ground that it lacked merit.
