Arik Air sad it has postponed its Lagos – New York flight for yesterday due to winter storm to 11. 30 pm Sunday, January 24, 2016.
An online statement by the Public Relations and Communications Manager, Adebanji Ola, informed that the decision to shift the flight to Sunday followed the advice just received from JFK International Airport New York.
According to him, “Following weather advice just received from JFK International Airport New York, Arik Air regrets to inform all its passengers that the Lagos – New York flight for Friday 22nd January has been rescheduled tentatively to 11:30pm (local time) on Sunday 24th January, 2016. “
He stated that the 48-hour postponement was intended to allow the dangerous winter storm (Jonas) and snow condition to clear before the flight’s entry into the United States airspace.
Arik Air, he said regrets the inconvenience caused by this postponement, which according to him was highly regretted, but that the safety of passengers was upper-most importance to the airline.
He assured passengers that the airline would confirm its next flight by 6pm on Saturday
“We would update passengers and confirm our next flight by 6pm Saturday, 23rd January, 2016.” He said
Though, it was not clear the number of passengers affected or if the airline had informed the passengers of the development, there are however fears that the shift may have affected over a 100 New York bound passengers
