…Sacks Dan-Abia, Directors
President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the immediate past Rivers State Information Commissioner, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, as Acting Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC), pending the appointment of a substantive board.
This followed yesterday’s sack of the NDDC, Managing Director, Mr. Bassey Dan-Abia and the two Executive Directors for Finance and Projects.
The sack was made known to journalists in a statement by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Semenitari would assume office immediately in the state Capital; Port Harcourt, having accepted the appointment.
The sacked board, led by its chairman, Senator Ewa Henshaw that was not comfortable with their sack had approached the law court to challenge their removal from office by the Presidency but later withdrew the case following assurances that the management led by Bassey Dan-Abia would soon also be shown the way out.
Abia, an indigene of Akwa Ibom state, was appointed by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2013.
Prior to his appointment, he had served two terms as the representative of Akwa Ibom.
Different corruption allegations have been levelled against NDDC, which was created as a response to the demands of the people of Niger Delta.
