The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Alhaji Yahaya Bello, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate governor –elect and winner of the Kogi governorship poll.
APC in the election scored 247,752 votes to defeat its rival Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that came second with 204,877 votes.
In yesterday’s (December 6,) supplementary APC secured 6885 votes to beat PDP which polled 5363 votes.
The supplementary poll took place in 18 of the 21 Local Government Areas in the state.
With these votes, Chief Returning Officer (CRO) for the election, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi declared Yahaya Bello Kogi governor-elect
Declaring Bello of the APC, winner, Kucha stated that the APC candidate have fulfilled all legal requirements
“That Yahaya Bello, having polled the highest number of votes and satisfied the law is hereby returned elected”. He declared
A drama however ensued during the collation of results temporarily halted when a PDP member our correspondent could not identify wanted to know the status of APC running mate.
Reacting, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) responded that Faleke remains the running mate to Bello.
It was jubilation galore in the streets of Lokoja and towns in the state when the results were announced and Alhaji Yahaya Bello was announced the winner of the election.
The Governor-elect, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, told journalist that the victory is for all the people of Kogi.
He urged the good people of the state to rally round him so as to translate the victory into success.
