The United Kingdom government today deported 48 Nigerians from the UK for alleged immigration related offences.
A breakdown of the figure indicated that 44 were male, while four were female
A source close to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS)at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport(MMA),Lagos that the deportees arrive the airport at 8.03 am.
He added that the deportees were transported to Nigeria on board a Boeing 767 aircraft with registration number AWC931 and that the flight originated from London Stansted Airport to Lagos
It was further learnt that the deportees were deported for immigration related offences but there was no official statement on the offences committed by the deportees.
The deportees were accompanied by security officials from United Kingdom.
When our correspondent visited the Lagos Airport, only very few deportees were seen around most of them had left.
A source, who spoke on the deportees, said that while some of them called on their friends and relations to pick them up, others made secured cars to take them to their various destinations.
One of the deportees, who spoke under the condition of anonymity stated that he has a dual citizenship of Nigeria and Netherland and that he was picked up on his way to the studio.
The deportee claimed that he does not know anybody in Lagos and as a result he has nowhere to.
Attempt to reach the NIS spokesman,Mr Ekpedeme King to give the accurate figure of those deported proved abortive ,as could not be reached on his mobile phone
