… Vow Not To Tolerate Sabotage Among Workers
Aviation unions comprising of the Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE),National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP) have threatened to bring commercial activities at the Kaduna Airport to a halt Sunday, May 16 midnight in compliance with the industrial action declared by its parent union the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),against the state government anti-labour practices perpetrated by the Governor Nasir El-Rufai to the detriment of the civil servants in the state
The decision to shut down the airport is contained in an letter dated May 14, 2021, addressed to the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria(FAAN) and titled, “Notice of Strike Action At Kaduna Airport,” jointly signed by the General Secretary, NUATE, Comrade Ocheme Aba, Secretary General, ANAP, Comrade Abdulrasaq Saidu, and Deputy General Secretary, NAAPE, Comrade Umoh Ofonime made available to aviation journalists yesterday in Lagos.
In the letter , the unions stated that they would go ahead with the industrial action from midnight of Sunday,May 16, 2021 to midnight of Friday,May 21, 2021.
The unions also copied the Kaduna State Branch Chairmen and Secretaries of NAAPE, NUATE and ANAP.
“We are constrained to inform you that in compliance with the industrial action declared in Kaduna by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and our unions as above shall proceed to effect the action from the midnight of Sunday, the 16th May, 2021 to midnight of Friday, the 21st of May, 2021.
“Accordingly, all workers at the Kaduna Airport have been directed to withdraw all services at the airport within the stipulated period. In effect, there will be no operations of any kind into, at or out of, the airport within the period.”
” This information is provided to enable your management to take steps to safeguard valuable property within the airport vicinity during the period of the industrial action,”the union’s letter reads.
The unions said that they will comply with the directive of NLC to down tools in the state between May 16 and 21, 2021, and that all workers have been directed to withdraw all services at the airport within the stipulated period.
According to the unions, “This action shall be fully carried out unless otherwise directed by the NLC. And all workers are enjoined to fully comply as no form of sabotage shall be tolerated”.
