The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos has arrested a staff of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) for alleged drug trafficking at the early hours of Saturday.
Though the identity of the suspect was not disclosed but a highly dependable source told AbelNews that the suspect was arrested in the official vehicle of NAMA at the air-side of the airport when he attempted to courier the drug through that area of the airport.
The source further confirmed that the suspect was one of the official drivers of NAMA, who work at the airport
The drug, believed to be cocaine was in big cartons and hidden inside the NAMA vehicle by the driver and his alleged partners in crime.
It was further gathered that the driver was not the only suspect arrested for allegedly attempting to courier illegal substance suspected to be cocaine, as other members of the drug cartel were equally nabbed at the airport
AbelNews learnt that the suspects had since been handed over to the officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Lagos Airport for further investigation.
Meanwhile, a source close to NDLEA told AbelNews that the suspect had started ‘singing’ and was also assisting the anti-drug agency in its investigation, who the agency staff and accomplices are working for.
It was gathered that the initial forensic test conducted on the drug by NDLEA confirmed the suspect was carrying banned substance.
Contacted, the General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr Khalid Emele condemned the involvement of NAMA staff in alleged drug trafficking,adding that the agency was ready to cooperate with anti drug agency in its investigation.
