A Nigerian and Delta Air Line passenger, Micheal Ijadunmi, age 65 today died on board the airline’s Flight DL54 en route Atlanta to Lagos.
A very reliable source at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, who confided in AbelNews, said that Ijadunmi died at about 12:28 pm about three hours before the Expected Time of Arrival of the flight.
The source further said that when the man was going to board the plane nobody knew he was sick or would anybody had thought he would not make it to Lagos ,Nigeria his final destination.
He added that when he died some passengers did not know until passengers sitting nearer to him drew the attention of the cabin crew to the man’s condition.
“I saw that man at Atlanta before the flight took off. I didn’t know he was sick. But I was shocked after the passenger sitting next to him called attention of the cabin crew to the man and all we heard later was that the man has passed on before medical help got to him,” the source said.
An American, who was also on board said he had never seen a corpse at close distance and that he was not sad throughout the flight after he learnt about the man’s death on board the flight.
“I was shocked when we heard the man was dead. I have never seen a corpse at close distance. I was no longer myself till we arrived here. A lot of things were just going through my mind. It was a painful experience.”
However, some members of the family of the deceased, who had come to receive him, were seeing entering the ambulance which was to carry the deceased to the undisclosed.
As at the time of compiling this report, AbelNews was not able to ascertain the cause of his death or was there any explanation from any quarter.
Meanwhile, Delta Air Line in a statement, said, “A passenger on Delta Flight DL54 travelling from Atlanta to Lagos today (11 March), was found unresponsive before landing. Local medical professionals met the plane upon arrival and confirmed the passenger had sadly passed away. Delta extends its deepest condolences to the family at this sad time. As a matter of passenger privacy, Delta will not release additional information.”
