Chief Executive Officer, West Link Airlines and renowned pilot Capt. Ibrahim Mshelia has stated that he decided to join the race for the governor of Borno State to lay a solid foundation for unstoppable and long lasting progress for the youths in the state.
Mshelia, who is also an aviation trainer disclosed that he would contest the Borno State number seat on the platform of the Labour Party(LP) because he strongly believes that the party would occupy the state government house come 2019.
He made this known yesterday while speaking at his formal presentation to members of the Labour Party and teeming supporters in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Speaking further, Mshelia stated that the current leadership have done their best, but quickly noted that their best was not good enough, adding that the 2019 election would be a different, as the era of impunity, mediocrity and empty promises of the ruling party are over.
According to him, “They might have great resources at their disposal; they might have the so called “advantage of incumbency”. But we are not afraid. We will rise to the challenge. We will build our economy in a manner that allows anyone willing to work to do so and enjoy a decent life from the proceeds of his labour. We will restore the dignity of our people and we’ll build a path to recovery for our numerous internally displaced who are can still contribute to our economy”.
The gubernatorial aspirant said that despite the enormous tasks ahead, the Labour Party would not let themselves be overwhelmed by challenges because Borno people are known to resilient and dynamic.
Mshelia also expressed happiness that LP has not participated in the lacklustre leadership that has altered the course of Borno State and indeed the entire country from the path of vitality and promise to that of frustration, fear and despair.
In his words, “I feel a deep sense of pride to identify with the labour party because it remains the party of hope and Borno state remains strong in the face of the great challenges at this crucial time in our history because of the hope that the people see when they look at the face of our dear party.”
He pledged his deep commitment to members of LP, who dedicate their time and energy to ensure better life for the people of the state.
He added that one of the ways of achieving better life is through provision of decent education for the workers’ children, to ensure that they grow old in comfort and with dignity.
The aviation trainer decried the insurgency ravaging the state, adding that it is a tragedy of epic proportions that Borno State which served as a home of greatness and hospitality and a jewel of Nigeria has battled insurgency that has left many people living in fear and many driven from their homes.
He stated that the state had not enjoyed peace and prosperity for the past nine years, adding that what this means is that the state has hundreds of thousands of children, who have lived more than 10 years and who does not know what it means it means to enjoy peace and prosperity.
“Very soon they will become adults and the full impact of years of uncertainty and desperation can birth a generation of angry young men and damaged young women. We must not let this be the fate of Borno State. We cannot afford to fail in the mission to bring true and lasting peace to this land,” Mshelia said.
He commended the military, other security services for their sacrifice to the nation and also praised the civilian JTF not only for the selfless sacrifice but also for their willingness to pay the highest price to ensure that their neighbours can sleep with their two eyes closed.
Speaking further Mshelia said, “However, there is still great work to be done. The leaders who have come before us may have performed well at times and not so well at others, but it is time to pass the torch to a new generation of leadership in Borno State that can tackle the problems that have plagued us for far too long. A new generation of leaders that will not rest until every man, woman and child in Borno can feel secure wherever he or she is. A new generation of leaders that can bring prosperity to or people and ensure that Borno takes its pride of place as one of the most prosperous states of Nigeria. A new generation of leaders that can inspire the people to dare to dream and be the best of who they are.”
