An Ecobank driver, Awotunde Awobutu was arrested on Friday, by the men of Area ‘A’ Police Command, Lion Building, Lagos Island, of the Nigeria Police Force, for allegedly driving recklessly.
The driver whose vehicle rammed into another car belonging to a female Lagos-based lawyer, was said to have been driving against traffic when the incident occurred at Sandgross Market area of Lagos Island.
He was to be driving an Ecobank official car with registration number LSR 615 CK, when he rammed into the car.
The 51-year-old man was accused of dangerous driving on the highway with expired driver’s license.
Upon his arrest, a driver’s license which had expired since 2013, was found on him, and he claimed he had been driving with the expired licence for the past 3-years without been apprehended.
The driver allegedly refused to stop when the incident happened and instead increased his speed and drove off.
It was gathered that the lawyer had to chased him until he was caught up in a busy traffic signal trying to pass through the traffic jam.
He was apprehended and handed over to the police as he tried to overtake another car in order to escape.
No one was injured in the crash but the car of the second driver was damaged.
An eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Uche, said he was coming out of a petrol station about 5pm on Friday, when the incident happened.
