Court Of Appeal Nullifies Akwa-Ibom House Speaker’s Election

Appeal Court sitting in Abuja has nullified the election of the Speaker of Akwa-Ibom House of Assembly, Mr Aniekan Uko, over failure to comply with provisions of the Electoral Act.
The court panel of three judges presided over by Justice Moshood Oredola-Abdulrahman, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh election in Ibesikpo-Asutan constituency of the state
The court upheld the earlier decision of the Legislative House Election Petitions Tribunal for Akwa Ibom, saying that the Speaker of the state House of Assembly Mr Aniekan Uko of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not validly elected in the April 11, 2015 election.
The court further held that the election tribunal which sat in Abuja was right in nullifying the election of the speaker on the basis of electoral violence and malpractices.
